FHIRE - Fiber HI-Resolution Echelle

FHIRE will be an R=60,000 echelle spectrograph with exquisite velocity precision, goal of 1 m/s or better, designed to measure stellar radial velocities and measure exoplanet masses. The spectrograph is temperature-stabilized to 1 mK, using technologies implemented in NASA's NEID speectrograph on the WIYN telescope. It is being built by Prof. Mike Pierce and is scheduled for commissioning in summer 2022. More information to come.

With hundreds of nights available per year to Wyoming astronomers, FHIRE on WIRO will make a substantial contribution to our understanding of extrasolar planet populations.
